Vermont 100 Endurance Run needs volunteers
June 13, 2008The Vermont 100 Endurance Race is one of the original 100 mile runs in the USA. This July 19-21st, 2008, 300 runners will attempt to finish this hilly race over beautiful Vermont back roads and trails under the 30 hour cutoff point, and a well-trained few finish in under 24 hours. The current course record is 14:53:09.
Volunteers are needed to serve food and greet runners at our 33 aid stations, shuttle drivers to transport racers and pacers between aid stations and the finish line, and lots of other chores. It’s work, but if you can spare at least 3 hours it’s tons of fun, you’ll be helping a great cause, you’ll meet lots of the best people you’ll ever want to meet, and the racers really will appreciate you.
This year will be the 20th annual race and bigger than ever. Centered around Brownsville, the course stretches north from Cavendish through Windsor and up to Pomfret. There’s also a 75-mile horse race run at the same time on the course, fireworks at the start, a raffle for a Honda hybrid car.
The Vermont 100 is a major fund-raiser for Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports (VASS), a nonprofit that provides sports and recreation for individuals with disabilities. VASS was founded at Ascutney Mt. Resort over 20 years ago and depends on volunteers for their activities and fund-raising events.
For more information, visit the Vermont 100 website or contact Kelly Burton to volunteer (you need to edit the email address AT=@, DOT=.).
[For full disclosure, I'm a long-time volunteer with VASS.]
