Do you ever need to share documents or spreadsheets with someone who doesn’t have the program that created it? Maybe it’s a Word document and they just need to see it but not edit it? But you want to send it to them electronically, not just print it and hand it to them. That’s when being able to create an Adobe Acrobat file (aka pdf, the file’s document extension) is handy. You generate the Acrobat file by “printing” your document to a pdf, so it looks exactly (or very close) like the original document.
The Adobe Acrobat software costs hundreds of $$$. But the file format is a standard, so other companies have come up with their own software for creating pdfs, many of which are free.

Two of the favorites from this comparison, both of which I’ve tried with equal success are:
PDFCreator and PrimoPDF
Neither contains ad-ware, malware, snoopware, etc., as far as I can tell.
Is anyone curious about spyware issues or ways to prevent and monitor for spyware? Any issues, tips or suggestions?
